Artist's Comments

Long after Taps had played, and the guns fired their salute. After all but one returned to their normal lives. She turned to go home and there he was. She cried out and they embraced. Their lips pressed together and she felt his warm embrace only for a moment. Then he wisps away forever.

I came across a contest "Create a Feeling 3" and was reading it a few days ago. Ironically, the tv was on in the other room and I over heard something about soldiers dieing. Hmmm... well now. I came up with this idea.
I believe it turned out very well. The actual picture looks allot better then the scan, but I used paint.net to adjust the brightness, contrast, hugh, saturation, and light till it looked more like the original.

Original is done in Prismacolor pencil on bristol board 9x12.

I used two photo references from the amazing stock selection on DA. Here they are...

Thanks you guys for taking the time to post these stocks.

I may still touch it up some more before the contest deadline.

Thank you for taking the time to look. Comments are welcome.

Thank you for your kind words. lol. But I've decided that I'm not done. Something doesn't look right, he's to white, or something. Structurally I like it, color and contrast is off. I'll keep playing with it and update it soon.
lol, your welcome! ^_^

Damn, Russ! Very nice.

I agree that he is a touch to white. Might be more of an impact if he were more translucent.

Also, I don't know if it is just the picture or scan, but the tree-line looks too light so that you can't see the trunks. Might just be a contrast issue though.

Still, fantastic job!
Thanks buddy! I'm still working on it. Just purchased my new pencils so lets see what kind of damage I can do now that I have a full variety of colors to work with. :)
